Community Night, Yoga By Donation at Valley Yoga to Support the Westfield Athenaeum Library

Westfield, MA   November 30, 2009—Valley Yoga, located at 82 Broad Street in Westfield, will host Community Night, Yoga By Donation, a series of yoga classes during December with proceeds donated to the Westfield Athenaeum Library.  The classes will be held on Wednesday December 2nd, 9th and 16th at 7:30pm with participation by donation.

“COMMUNITY NIGHT, Yoga by Donation! is our way giving back to our community in this time of great need and thanks giving,” commented Bill Westerlind, Westfield resident and co-owner of Valley Yoga. “ On the first three Wednesdays in December, the 2nd, 9th and 16th at 7:30pm, we will be holding “FREE” drop in yoga classes with class donations going to the Westfield Athenaeum. The library plays a very important role in the City of Westfield but recent budgetary reductions and economic pressures have forced this public institution to curtail operating hours, furlough staff and reduce purchases of new materials. Proceeds from these Yoga by Donation classes will go directly to the Westfield Athenaeum.”

No previous yoga experience is necessary to participate. Nicole Henderson, Westfield resident and registered Yoga teacher at Valley Yoga, will teach these classes with an emphasis on gentle yoga postures and stress reduction.

Valley Yoga is located at 82 Broad Street (lower level) in Westfield, MA. For more information contact us at 413-562-1140 or info@valley-yoga.com. Or visit us on the web at www.valley-yoga.com.

Westfield Athenaeum’s Fall Lecture Series – Dan Genovese

December 2, 2009
7:00 pmto10:00 pm

Dan Genovese, Westfield sports historian, will discuss his third book, this time on Westfield’s professional basketball history titled ‘Rough House,’ a rare glimpse of the turbulent world of professional basketball in the early twentieth century. ‘Rough House’ examines a time when Westfield was a “major league” city and basketball was played in a wire cage on a small court with rugby scrums, fisticuffs, no backboards, back-court violations, shot clocks or seven-foot giants.

Dan Genovese is the captain of the Westfield Wheelmen, a vintage base ball team from Westfield, and is the author of a two-volume set called “The Old Ball Ground” about the early history of base ball in Westfield. A book signing will follow the talk.
