Park Square Green Renovation

green studyMayor Dan Knapik has issued a formal statement concerning the Park Square Green Renovation currently underway in the center of our Downtown.

The project originated in the late 1990′s and the Town Common Preservation Initiative committee was formed.

In addition, the city has published the study (on their website) which was presented to the city council prior to the final vote on this project.  Click here to ready the study.

There will be a public forum on Monday, June 14 at 7 p.m. at the South Middle School Auditorium for an update on the Green Restoration, the Great River Bridge Park construction, and the mayor’s plan to plant 200 trees in 2 years in our city neighborhoods.  Please check the city website, www.cityofwestfield.org, for any additional details.

Downtown WSC Student Housing

landsdownWESTFIELD, Mass., May 14, 2010 – Westfield State College announced today the Massachusetts Division of Capital Asset Management (DCAM) has selected Lansdowne Place, located at 38 Thomas Street in Westfield, as the site of Westfield State College’s first downtown student apartment housing location. Steady growth in enrollment at the college has resulted in substantial demand for student housing that exceeds Westfield State’s on-campus housing capacity.  DCAM will lease Lansdowne Place on behalf of the college from FS Holdings Lansdowne, LLC for 10 years.

A Night of Poetry & Music

A Night of Poetry & Music in celebration of National Poetry Month, The Westfield Athenaeum will be presenting this fun-filled evening starting at 7:00 p.m. in the Florence Rand Lang auditorium. Lori Desrosiers, an Assistant Professor of English at Westfield State College, and local poet, is helping coordinate the event.

Three winners in the Connecticut Poetry Circuit’s annual poetry contest will read their poems at the event and two musicians/poets from Westfield State College will be appearing to play musical interludes and to read some of their poems.
