Lanternlight Parade and Holiday Tree Lighting
Monday, November 29th
Mayor Daniel M. Knapik will ring in the 7th Annual Dickens Days Celebration by lighting the holiday lights at Civil War Memorial Park, at the intersection of Court and Elm Streets, November 29, 2010 at 6:30pm.
Festivities will begin at 6:15pm with the Westfield High School Concert Choir, directed by Korey Bruno. The Lantern-light parade, featuring Dickens Days Spirits, including Queen Victoria, Charles Dickens, Scrooge, the Cratchits and Tiny Tim, will escort Santa and Mrs. Claus to the Athenaeum in a horse-drawn carriage, provided by Rich Evans Farm of Granville.
The parade will begin on Court Street at the Berkshire Bank and will circle the green twice and then join the Mayor for the lighting ceremony at 6:30. The Mayor invites everyone to carry a lantern and join the line of march by assembling at 5:30 pm in the Berkshire Bank parking lot.
Immediately following the ceremony, the Athenaeum will have mulled cider, and holiday cookies available for everyone in the Reed Room. Hot chocolate will be provided by Mt. Moriah, Masonic Temple.
Dickens Days is produced by Westfield on Weekends, Inc, and the Westfield Business Improvement District (WBID) in association with the City and Westfield State University. The Lantern-light Parade festivities are sponsored by the Westfield Business Improvement District and the Law Office of Attorney Robert Walker.
There are more than forty events throughout the holiday season during Dickens Days, including the next event, a performance of A Christmas Carol by Gerald Charles Dickens, the great-great-grandson of Charles Dickens, Friday, December 3 at 8:00 pm at Central Baptist Church.
