Traffic Update for the week of 8/01/11

Main Street Project:

The Lynch Construction work area will remain active from Meadow Street up to the corner of Elm Street near Park Square.

This week will see Lynch Construction continuing to work on the water and sewer systems on Main Street in this work area.

The work will be done from 7am to 5pm and road closures will only be during this time period.

Main Street:

The work area is now concentrated from White Street to the Park on the South Side, with some additional work being completed between Cross Street and White Street as well. The temporary traffic lanes have been paved and it is helping to move the traffic through the area.

Please remain alert and follow the directions of the Westfield Police Officers who will be working throughout the work sites.

Park Square Area:

Now that Lynch Construction has been awarded the overall Park Green project you will continue to see major work on the site as it transforms into a classical New England Community Green and modern gathering point. There will be No Parking on Broad Street in front of Tavern Restaurant during the construction day.

Thomas Street Lot:

The reconstruction of the Thomas Street public parking lot will begin Tuesday. The front three quarters of the lot, that is the section closest to Main Street, will be the focus of the construction and will not be available for parking during over the majority of the next six weeks.

Public Parking Options:

The public parking lot behind the Tavern Restaurant is open and available as well as the Stop n Shop parking areas closest to Main Street.

A parking area has been established with an entrance off of Elm Street next to Mina’s Spirits.

The public parking lots on the west side of Elm Street remain open and available and can be accessed via School Street, Church Street, Arnold Street and Franklin Street.

Please use these additional parking areas to support our downtown merchants and restaurants – they are open for business, lets support them.

Traffic Update as of 7/11/11

Here is the traffic and construction update for the week of 7/11/11:

Main Street Project:

The Lynch Construction work area will remain active from Meadow Street up to the corner of Elm Street near Park Square.

This week will see Lynch Construction continuing to work on the water and sewer systems on Main Street in this work area.

The work will be done from 7am to 5pm and road closures will only be during this time period.

On Monday,Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Mechanic Street will be closed from Main Street to North Cherry Street as water and sewer lines are installed.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, Main Street will see paving work from Meadow Street up to White Street.

This will mean that the intersections of Main Street and Casimir Street, George Street and White Street will experience some closures during the work day.

Beginning on Monday Main Street from White Street to Elm Street will see major excavation work as underground utility lines are replaced. This phase will take about 2 weeks.

Please remain alert and follow the directions of the Westfield Police Officers who will be working throughout the work sites.

Traffic Update as of 7/04/11

Here is the traffic and construction update for the week of 7/4/11:

Main Street Project:

The Lynch Construction work area will remain active from Meadow Street up to the corner of Elm Street near Park Square.

This week will see Lynch Construction continuing to work on the water and sewer systems on Main Street in this work area.

The work will be done from 7am to 5pm and road closures will only be during this time period.

On Tuesday and Wednesday Free Street at Main Street will be closed as new water lines are installed at the intersection. Free Street can be accessed from Thomas Street.

On Wednesday, Meadow Street from Main Street to Casimir Street will be closed for water line work. Officers will be placed throughout the area to assist motorists through this detour.

On Thursday and Friday Mechanic Street from Main Street to North Cherry Street will closed for water line work.

Traffic Update for the week of 6/06/11

Main Street Project:

This week will see Lynch Construction continuing to work on Main Street between White Street and Meadow Street.

They have completed the paving of the eastbound lanes in the project area and we will see the traffic flow move into this area today or Tuesday at the latest.

Once the eastbound lane is re-opened and the traffic pattern changed, Lynch Construction will concentrate on the Westbound lanes and that should take about 1 1/2 to 2 months to complete.

Park Square Area:

Traffic Update for the week of 5/30/11

Main Street Project:

This week will see Lynch Construction continuing to work on Main Street between White Street and Meadow Street.

This week the focus will be on paving the eastbound lanes in the project area.

By the end of this week, from 7am to 5pm, Main Street will be paved and during this time the intersections of Cross Street, State Street and Taylor Street at Main Street will be closed at various times while the pavement is applied.

You will be able access these streets from Ashley Street.

Once the eastbound lane is re-opened Lynch Construction will concentrate on the Westbound lanes and that should take about 2 months to complete.

Westfield G&E working on Main Street:

The Westfield G&E will be working from 7am to 3pm in the area of 185 Main Street this week.

Traffic Update for the week of 5/23/11

Here is the traffic and construction update for the week of 5/23/11:

Main Street Project:

This week will see Lynch Construction continuing to work on Main Street between White Street and Meadow Street.

This week the focus will be on the waterlines between Taylor Street and Cross Street.

On Tuesday, from 7am to 4pm, State Street will be closed at Main Street and will be accessible from Ashley Street.

A look ahead has the eastbound lanes scheduled to be paved during the first week of June which means the project is moving along. Once the pavement is in place they will shift their attention to the westbound lanes, which should take about 45 days to complete. We’ll keep you posted.

Broad Street, Elm Street and Main Street:

Lynch Construction will be continuing to install the curbing and sidewalks along Broad Street, Elm Street and Main Street, weather permitting.

Park Square Area:

Now that Lynch Construction has been awared the overall Park Green project you will continue to see major work on the site as it transforms into a classsical New England Community Green and modern gathering point.

Traffic Update for the week of 5/16/11

Here is the traffic and construction update for the week of 5/16/11:

Main Street Project:

This week will see Lynch Construction continuing to work on Main Street between White Street and Meadow Street.

This week from 7am to 4pm Eastbound traffic on Main Street will be limited to one lane from Taylor Street to Meadow Street.

Westbound traffic from Main Street will be diverted at Meadow Street to Mechanic Street and back onto Main Street.

Once this week is complete we expect to return to the two single lanes of traffic and this traffic pattern will be in place for approximately another 2 months as they will be finishing the eastbound lanes and then will switch to the westbound lanes and complete this section of the project before moving onto the next phase.

Broad Street and Elm Street:

Lynch Construction will be continuing to install the curbing and sidewalks along Broad Street and Elm Street.

Park Square Area:

Now that Lynch Construction has been awarded the overall Park Green project you will continue to see major work on the site as it transforms into a classical New England Community Green and modern gathering point.

Traffic Update for the week of 5/09/11

Traffic Update For the Week of 5/09/11

Please remember our downtown merchants are still open for business and appreciate your continued support!   We have plenty of parking available and it’s a short walk to any downtown business from the lots.

Here is the traffic and construction update for the week of 5/09/11:

Main Street Project:

This week will see Lynch Construction continuing to work on Main Street between White Street and Meadow Street.  The eastbound lanes have been closed and the area on Main Street from White Street and Meadow Street has now been reduced to two lanes to handle the traffic traveling through the area.

It is expected that this traffic pattern will be in place for approximately 2-3 months as they will be finishing the eastbound lanes and then will switch to the westbound lanes and complete this section of the project before moving onto the next phase.

East & West Silver Street and Broad & South Broad Street:

Lynch Construction will be doing spot paving in this intersection and general area but it should have a minimal impact on the flow of traffic.

Broad Street and Elm Street:

Lynch Construction will be continuing to install the curbing and sidewalks along Broad Street, Elm Street and Main Street.

Park Square Area:

On Tuesday and Wednesday Tractor Trailer traffic coming into the Park going north will be diverted from the Park to Mechanic Street and then to Meadow Street to be reconnected with the northbound traffic over the new bridge.

What’s Ahead:

Starting 5/15 and running for the week, Lynch Construction will be working from 126 Main Street to George Street at night from 8pm to 6am. The area will be reduced to one lane of traffic and the police officers will guide the traffic through this area.  This is in addition to the normal daytime activities.

Traffic Update for the week of 4/25/11

Please remember our downtown merchants are still open for business and appreciate your continued support! We have plenty of parking available and it’s a short walk to any business downtown from the lots.

Here is the traffic and construction update for the week of 4/25/11:

Main Street Project:
This week will see Lynch Construction continuing to work on Main Street between White Street and Meadow Street.

The eastbound lanes have been closed and the area on Main Street from White Street and Meadow Street has now been reduced to two lanes to handle the traffic traveling through the area.

It is expected that this traffic pattern will be in place for approximately 2-3 months as they will be finishing the eastbound lanes and then will switch to the westbound lanes and complete this section of the project before moving onto the next phase.

State Street and Main Street:
One day this week, depending on the weather, traffic around the area of State Street and Main Street will be closed.

This detour is necessary because of sewer work in the area of State Street and Main Street.  There will be officers at key intersections to assist as necessary. The work is to be done between 7:00 a.m and 3:30 p.m. barring any unforeseen circumstances!

Broad Street and Elm Street:
Lynch Construction will be continuing to install the curbing and sidewalks along Broad Street and Elm Street.

Park Square Area:
The Westfield Gas & Electric will be installing temporary lighting in and around park square and this is expected to be completed by Tuesday of this week. The temporary lighting is expected to be in place for about 6-8 weeks as part of the change over to the new lighting systems.

Main Street at Veteran’s Bridge:
Westfield G&E will be reducing the eastbound lane on Main Street near the Veterans Bridge to complete electrical work. It is expected that this project will last no more than two (2) weeks.
