Best Retail Practices Grant Workshop Feb. 28th, 2012

Retailers, Restaurant Owners, and Storefront Businesses are invited to join in our Best Retail Practices Program, for details on this Free workshop see below:

Date: Tuesday, February 28th, 2012

Location: “Prime Available” Commercial Space
At 172 Elm Street (next to former “Erins Own Irish Imports)

Time: 7:45 am-10:15 am (continental breakfast will be available)

Learn How To: Improve your store’s appearance, Attract more customers, Sell more products, Improve your bottom line!

You will receive: *Great info and ideas, One on one consultation (if chosen to receive a grant), An opportunity to apply for Grant $$$

Six (6) stores will receive individual in-store consultation sessions and will each receive up to $1,900 to help with their improvements. But many of the ideas can be done for free!In order to qualify for the grant you must attend the workshop.

Grant applications will only be available at the workshop!

The Seat Weaver selected by historical museum….

The Seat Weaver has been selected by the Harriet Beecher Stowe museum in Hartford, CT to replace the caning on an 1870 Hooker family office chair. Mark officially finished the re-caning and the chair has been returned to the museum, but you can still see samples of his work in their beautiful shop located at 24 Arnold Street. In addition, The Seat Weaver carries original handmade gifts created by local artisans, so stop in and browse the selection, you’ll be amazed at what you can find!

Congratulations to Mark and Alice, owners of The Seat Weaver, on this prestigious honor!

Come help us boost the local economy in Westfield by buying local! The campaign begins Friday, Nov. 25th and runs through Saturday, March 31, 2012, the Westfield Business Improvement District will be hosting a Think Westfield First, Buy Local campaign. To participate, grab a card from the Westfield Athenaeum or from several other places downtown. Then make (3) purchases in and around the businesses in the downtown Westfield area and have the merchant initial your card. Once you have obtained three signatures, drop off your card in one of our raffle boxes located at the Westfield Athenaeum or at various downtown shops to be entered for a chance to win! The more you shop, the more chances you have to win!

There will be two winners! The first will be drawn on December 23rd and the final raffle will be drawn on April 2nd. Both Grand Prizes gift baskets will include an iPod nano, gift certificates, and merchandise from local businesses!!!

3rd Annual Dickens Days Village Stroll!

Our 3rd Annual Dickens Days Stroll was a hit! Our downtown businesses were transformed into quaint, Victorian shoppes while Dickens’ characters joined shoppers strolling through the downtown. Business owners were thrilled with the turnout! Along with the festive theme, there were also crafts and activities for friends and families to partake in. It was wonderful to see so many people come out to participate the event! We can’t wait to see what is to come for next year’s Dickens Days Stroll!

Thursday Night Shopping & Grand Reopening

Thank you to all those who came out for our Thursday Night Shopping and Grand Reopening event! In spirits of the Holiday Season, many of our businesses in Downtown Westfield have extended their hours on Thursday nights until 8:00 p.m. to encourage shopping. Shoppers were able to indulge with some tasty treats offered by some of the business owners. Even Santa and Mrs. Claus came out for the event! In addition to this event, we also wanted to highlight our first round of Best Retail Practices’ grant recipients and how much they have improved! Dickens Day Dinner featuring “A Christmas Carol” live performance

Enjoy a delicious Dickens dinner on Thursday, December 15th at the School Street Bistro located on 29 School Street. Dinner begins at 7 p.m. and in between courses you will be entertained with a performance of “A Christmas Carol”.
