Maureen “Moe” Belliveau officially began her duties as our new Executive Director this past Monday. As a past and current board member Moe knows what the WBID has already accomplished and she is prepared to continue our mission to make Downtown Westfield a great place to “live, work, and play”.   Moe is a former small business owner (Optimum Health Therapeutic Massage) as well as having an extensive background in business.  We are very fortunate to have someone like her who is so passionate and energetic and we look forward to a great future under her leadership!

Our goal remains the same; to support our local family owned farms and food producers. Locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables, plants & flowers, home baked breads & goods, free range eggs, goat cheese, honey, maple syrup and other local products are needed to make our market the great success it has been for the past 3 years. The WBID is presently accepting applications from interested local farmers.

The WBID will continue to provide support with significant marketing coverage, administration and overall insurance (*each farmer will be expected to have their own insurance as well). Participants are requested to bring tools to assist with the clean-up such as brooms, rakes, lawn/leaf bags, wheel barrows, trash bags, weeding tools, etc. Instructions will be distributed at the assembly area located at the Arnold Street parking lot, starting at 8:00 am.

Join us May 5, 2012 for a Kentucky Derby themed Downtown Restaurant and Pub Tour!

For the second year, Westfield on Weekends in association with the Westfield Business Improvement District (WBID) celebrates the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby! Watch the Derby, then celebrate by participating in the ever-exciting Pub Tour version of the race.

It’s a self-guided tour of the funn-est, funkiest, downright great nightspots in downtown WHIP CITY, complete with carriage rides, lively music, a scavenger hunt, street vendors and good food .

Who knows?! You too may stand in the winner’s circle – mint julep in hand!

In addition to the Winner’s Circle game, which awards REALLY first-rate prizes and is a nose-length from the finishing line in at Churchill Downs, there’s also a scavenger hunt with gift certificates to participating restaurants for the winners.

 This week we presented Nancy Stevenson with the grand prize of a  gift basket containing  an iPod nano, gift certificates and merchandise donated by local merchants.  We were pleased to hear about Nancy’s dedication to supporting our Downtown Westfield businesses.  She frequently does her shopping downtown at places like Pilgrim Candle, Ezra’s Mercantile, Mina’s Wine and Spirits and Fast Feet.  As a Westfield resident who also works in the downtown area she was thrilled to see new shops that have opened in Westfield recently.  She and her co-worker use their lunch break to stroll around the downtown and do their local shopping.  One of the reasons Nancy chooses to shop local is the excellent attention and customer service that she receives from our downtown merchants.  She spoke highly of Mina’s Wine and Spirits where owner Prob Reshamwala can recommend the perfect wine or will even order a special brand if it is not in stock.  She and her co-workers will also stop at Paddy’s Irish Pub for their delicious pizza or will head to the Tavern for what they call “Tavern Tuesdays” after work to enjoy the great atmosphere, food and to relax with friends.  She has also participated in previous events downtown such as the Downtown Restaurant and Pub Tours and bought fresh produce from our Farmers’ Markets.

The Westfield Business Improvement District would like to thank Nancy and everyone else who continue to support our local economy by shopping in Downtown Westfield!
